RiverRotos Kick-Off Party: Parsonsfield

PARSONSFIELD (formerly Poor Old Shine) is a five-piece Americana band from CT that infuses a rowdy, rock-n’-roll spirit into its bluegrass and folk influences, blowing away any preconceptions of what you think banjos and mandolins should sound like.

During the winter of 2013-14 the band wrote and performed an original score in the acclaimed production of The Heart of Robin Hood at Harvard’s American Repertory Theatre. The production garnered rave reviews during its runs in Winnipeg and Toronto.

Toronto Star writes: “...totally out of left field — comes the music of Parsonsfield, an eclectic American band which happily mingles bluegrass, folk, jazz and anything else that comes to mind. Not only does their sound make that biblical “joyful noise,” but the musicians themselves scamper around as though they were part of the cast of the Appalachian production of Lord of the Rings — the Musical.”

About their debut album Poor Old Shine (Signature Sounds), David Vescey from the New York Times noted, “I fully expect to hear more from this band as the years go on.” U.K.’s Maverick Magazine called it "a blistering energetic debut.”
